Leopold the cat gets chased out of his own home by a new dog, finds refuge with the man next door, and slowly makes himself impossible to give back: 'I hate when people allow a new dog to push their cats out.'

Not my cat - His name is Leopold
via sojuicy
It's actually my neighbors cat. But he (the neighbor) got a new girlfriend
via sojuicy
that brings her dog along all the time when they're here, who chases the cat.

So I started putting out a little bit of food, because he (the cat) was always looking at the fence,
via sojuicy
but didn't really try to get to their house because of the dog. Well... this is now. Still not my cat.

He's neutered, outside for 22 h, he can go where he wishes, but by now he usually stays in
via sojuicy
my yard and sleeps one to two hours a day on my lap and loves to be petted.

He's very small and timid, but very trusting.

lenalovegood1312 i was lucky enough to share quarters with a glorious menace named Leopold. 10/10 nightmare to get any work done, but oh so sweet. give your' leopold some scritchies from us.

sojuicy OP I will. I already told my neighbor that if he sells. the house, which he's planning to do I gladly take care of him. He accepted, but who knows what's going to happen.

lenalovegood1312 oh that sounds good! paws crossed it goes well!

Organic-Mix-9422 Since the neighbour cares more about the girlfriend and dog, he doesn't deserve the wonderfully named Leopold.
via Organic-Mix-9422
Leopold should swiifty move through the phases of not my cat, to almost my cat, to my cat.
via Organic-Mix-9422
sojuicy OP That is my plan. I don't know how it is in other countries (I'm in Germany), but here cats usually get chipped, so they have an officially/legal owner. So he has to officially transfer ownership to me. He doesn't want to do that now.
via sojuicy
He could one day just pack him up, put him into an animal shelter and I'll never get Leopold back. This is why I'm glad about all those photos I have, like some kind of evidence, that I cared about the cat. We'll see how it plays out.
via sojuicy
joeyNcabbit I hope the owner cares more about Leopold than to just up and take him to a shelter. It's not about the owner, it's about Leopold.

sojuicy OP When I confronted him about the dog chasing him, he shrugged his shoulders, that's how dogs are, kinda. He's clearly in love with his new girlfriend. And if it's her dog he seems to have priority. Just from what I see of course. I don't want to judge. I just care about Leo.
via sojuicy
This is why I'm glad that Leo mostly spends time on my property. I can take care of him. But there is the legal issue hanging in the air, to whom he belongs".
via sojuicy
Reddit can't help in this. I just wanted to share my story. If he's gone tomorrow, when I expect him, he's gone. I don't think so but it's an everyday possibility.

yosoyfat❤s That poor cat doesn't belong with someone who cares so little about his safety and happiness. I hope he ends up with you permanently!

Send_me_hedgehogs Aww, he might not be yours but it looks like you're his! That's how I got my furry lunatic, Whisky (RIP). Neighbour got huge dog, Whisky noped out and suddenly I had a cat. The Cat Distribution Matrix never gets it wrong.

yosoyfat s I hate when people allow a new dog to push their cats out. Dogs so often get preferential treatment.

Thanks for giving this sweet guy a refuge. I hope he just stays with you and forgets the dog people.
